1799 Embedded I/O
1799 Embedded I/O is a printed circuit board for machine-embedded applications. With its extended temperature specifications, 1799 Embedded I/O provides 24V DC digital I/O that can be mounted directly inside or on a machine, in the side-channel of a conveyor, or within a field replaceable unit. These printed circuit boards are ideal for applications restricted by space limitations, applications requiring highly distributed I/O close to sensors and actuators, and applications with an enclosure provided. Typical applications include: modular and sortation conveyors, robotics I/O, operator interface panels, packaging machines, highly distributed lift applications, semiconductor material handling, and warehouse automation conveyors.
Benefits
- Compact size and extended temperature specifications let you embed I/O directly into or onto a machine.
- Built-in DeviceNet™ adapter supports virtually all DeviceNet-compliant devices and systems, while the removable DeviceNet I/O connectors reduce wiring, installation costs, start-up time, and downtime.
- Universal NEMA type 1+ inputs help ensure compatibility with a broad range of sensors, both NPN and PNP.
- Node address switches and autobaud ease network commissioning.
- Supports a broad range of power supplies and multiple voltage levels from the network.
- Output short-circuit protection protects outputs against accidental miswiring.
- Change-of-state DeviceNet capability reduces network bandwidth usage and improves network throughput for improved speed and efficiency.
- DeviceLogix™ Smart Component Technology lets you control outputs and manage status information locally within the card for quick response, reduced network traffic, and a smaller control program.
- Zone Interlocking Parameters (ZIP) speed communication between cards for use in high-speed applications.
- Dual-port EtherNet/IP module uses advanced network technology, for example, producer/consumer communication, to increase network functionality and throughput.
Product Design
The 1799 Embedded I/O printed circuit board assemblies can be embedded into a machine, mounted directly to a panel, mounted on a DIN rail, or mounted in an enclosure. Optional hardware is available to suit equipment packaging and mounting needs. Each card offers either 20, 24, or 32 digital I/O circuits (24V DC). Inputs are universal NEMA type 1+. Outputs are available as either 0.5 A sinking or sourcing. Embedded I/O also features LED indicators for diagnostics.
Each I/O card has a built-in 24V DC input power supply and built-in DeviceNet adapter. The DeviceNet network provides power to the Embedded I/O card. Inputs and outputs are powered by an external 24V DC source, which is independent of the network.
1799 Embedded I/O is compatible with PLC®, SLC™, ControlLogix™, or SoftLogix™ programmable controllers using DeviceNet scanners.
DeviceLogix Smart Component Technology
Optional DeviceLogix™ technology lets you use the status of local inputs along with network inputs, and network and module status bits to control both local and network outputs. DeviceLogix allows for quick response, reduced network traffic, and a smaller control program. Use the Function Block editor in RSNetWorx™ for DeviceNet (v3.0 and higher) to create DeviceLogix programs of up to 48 function blocks, or 144 function blocks with 1799 Zone Control I/O cards.
Zone Control I/O Cards
The 1799 Zone Control I/O (ZCIO) cards incorporate Zone Interlocking Parameters (ZIP) technology. DeviceLogix™ allows for quick response, reduced network traffic and a smaller control program. One ZCIO card can consume data directly from up to four other ZCIO cards without hard-wiring or the use of a scanner. These direct communications between conveyor zones are beneficial in a merge or divert application such as high-speed sortation. ZCIO cards (Series B) increase the DeviceLogix memory to 144 function blocks.
EtherNet/IP I/O Card and Expansion Module
The 1799ER-IQ10XOQ10 is a dual-port Ethernet 20-point I/O board that communicates via an Ethernet/IP network. 1799ER modules support Star, Tree, Linear and Ring topologies.
An expansion module (1799-OQ10X) can be combined with the 1799ER-IQ10XOQ10 to add 10 output points to the system.
Communication
Rockwell Automation embedded I/O modules communicate via both DeviceNet and EtherNet/IP protocols, unlike many packaged I/O solutions. Dual Port EtherNet/IP embedded I/O products can make your I/O wiring more efficient by eliminating the use of external Ethernet switches and the expensive cabling required in star topologies, while using the DLR topology provides redundancy for enhanced system performance.
DeviceNet embedded I/O products link your machine to your controller for speed and efficiency with change-of-state functionality. DeviceNet, combined with removable I/O connectors lets you reduce wiring, installation costs start-up time and down time.
