CompactlLogix System Overview
The CompactLogix system is designed to provide a Logix solution for small and mid-size applications. Typically, these applications are machine-level control applications. A simple system can consist of a standalone controller with a single bank of I/O modules and DeviceNet communication. A more complex system may include other networks, motion control, and safety control.
System Components
CompactLogix system components include:
| Component | Description |
| CompactLogix Controllers | Options include: CompactLogix packed controllers, modular controllers, integrated motion controllers, and GuardLogix safety controllers. User memory ranges from 0.5 to 3 MB standard, plus 0.5 to 1 MB safety, depending on controller type. CompactFlash cards offer nonvolatile memory (flash) to permanently store a user program and tag data. |
| CompactLogix Communication Modules | Options include: EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH-485, and Serial communication modules. Install multiple communication-interface modules into the CompactLogix backplane to configure a gateway to bridge or route control and information data between different networks. |
| CompactLogix Integrated Motion Modules | SERCOS interface for 1768 modules. |
| CompactLogix I/O Modules | Options include: digital, analog, thermocouple, RTD, motion, and specialty modules. Densities range from 4 to 32 points per module. Remote terminal blocks (RTBs), interface modules (IFMs), or I/O module-ready cables are used for connecting to each I/O module. Modules are rate IP20, Class I, Division 2/Zone 2. |
| CompactLogix Power Supplies | Packaged controllers have an internal power supply. Other modules require one power supply for the controller and local I/O, and one power supply for each additional bank of I/O modules. |
Optional system components include:
| Component | Description |
| Visualization Products | Visualization products, together with Logix for control and NetLinx architecture for communication, make up the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture strategy. Choose from PanelView Plus and PanelView Plus CE electronic operator interface and Rockwell Automation industrialized personal computer hardware. Available Rockwell Software supervisory control software includes FactoryTalk View software. |
| Software | Your selection of modules and network configuration determines what software packages you need to configure and program your system. Program your CompactLogix system with RSLogix 5000 Enterprise Series software. Additional design and configuration products include RSNetworx and RSLinx software. |
