Integrated Line Regenerative Braking for Precise Control and Energy Savings

The Liquid-Cooled AC drive features regenerative braking which is ideal for precise, high-response speed and position control, continuous holdback, rapid deceleration and stopping of high inertia loads. Instead of wasting energy with resistor braking technology, regenerative braking actually puts the energy back into the system to be used by other equipment.

• Compact and cost-effective means to achieve compliance with CE and IEEE 519 harmonic limits.

Increased Power Density

The PowerFlex Liquid-Cooled AC drive features a patented liquid-cooled heatsink design to transfer over 80% of the drive heat loss to the liquid coolant, resulting in the best drive power-to-size ratio in the market. The integral active converter and line filter translate to a fully regenerative drive that's over 60% smaller than typical air-cooled units.

Drive Description

PowerFlex 700L Liquid-Cooled AC drives are responsive, high performance, regenerative industrial motor drives for applications requiring compact non-ventilated enclosures. The PowerFlex 700L drive offers two versions of control: either the PowerFlex 700 Vector Control or the PowerFlex 700S Phase II Control. This provides the PowerFlex 700L drive with exceptional and proven performance as well as the same interface, communications capabilities and programming tools of the air-cooled drives. The many features allow the user to easily configure the drive for most application needs. Ratings currently available include:

• 268 to 960 Hp at 400V AC
  
• 300 to 1150 Hp at 480V AC
  
• 465 to 870 Hp at 600V AC
  
• 475 to 881 Hp at 690V AC
  

An LCD Human Interface Module (also used with the PowerFlex 70, 700, 700S, and 700H) provides multilingual text for startup, metering, programming, and troubleshooting.

PowerFlex 700L drives are configurable for Volts-per-Hertz, Sensorless Vector and Vector Control with Force Technology™ to meet a wide variety of application needs. This control is housed in a separately removable cassette which is the same for all drive ratings, simplifying installation and maintenance for the entire product line.

Optional internal communication modules provide fast and efficient control and/or data exchange over the following interfaces:

Cooling Loops

The various types of cooling Loops are explained below.

Liquid to Liquid Heat Exchanger

The liquid to liquid heat exchanger utilizes a heat transfer plate to transfer heat from one liquid to another. This method requires a stable water supply from the user.



Liquid to Air Heat Exchanger

The liquid to air heat exchanger utilizes radiator technology to transfer heat from a liquid to surrounding air. This is a simple closed loop system - it does not require a water supply from the user. However, this system requires surrounding air 5 to 10°C below the maximum operating temperature of the drive.



Chiller

The chiller utilizes refrigerant to transfer heat from a liquid to air. This is a simple closed loop system – it does not require a water supply from the user. A chiller can achieve almost any water temperature required.

Drive Application Software



Drive Application Software brings together an outstanding range of application experience and performance drive products to provide the user with pre-engineered and cost effective drive application solutions.

The following Application Modules are available for installation and use exclusively in the PowerFlex 700S AC drives with DriveLogix^® that are provided to customers. The Drive Application Software is licensed and cannot be transferred or resold. On site commissioning and support services are not included with Drive Application Software.

• Application Module — Center Winder/Unwind is used for center driven variable diameter process line applications requiring Loadcell, Dancer, or Open Loop web tension control.
  
• Application Module — Inline Tensioning is used for constant diameter process line applications requiring Loadcell, Dancer, or Draw web tension control.
  
• Application Module — Lead Line Control is used for lead section control and line coordination with support for progressive and regressive draw. This Application Module works with the Center Winder/Unwind and Inline Tensioning Application Modules.
  
• Application Module — Positioning (Point to Point) is used for point to point position control with support for selectable target positions, Learn Target function and Homing functions.
  
• Function Module — Spindle orient is used to position a motor to a precise location regardless of whether the motor is starting from standstill or rotating at high speed. The location is defined by a marker pulse.
  
• Function Module — TorqueProv is used to automate torque and brake proving for lifting applications.
  
• Process Line Suite of Application Modules includes the Lead Line Control, Inline Tensioning, and Center Winder/Unwind application modules.
