The Bulletin 825 SMM Smart Motor Manager is
a modular, multifunction motor protection relay designed to provide
optimal utilization of motors that operate critical applications.
An accurate thermal model of the motor is achieved through direct
current and temperature sensing. The modular design of the SMM
motor protection relay allows an installer to select the level
of protection necessary for a given application with capability
for future expansion.
Two-Body Simulation Most thermal overload protective devices employ
a one-body thermal simulation model that assumes that a motors thermal response is
uniform throughout. The SMM motor protection relay uses a two-body simulation
which takes into account the different temperature rise characteristics of the
stator windings and the iron mass of the motor. The result is a higher precision
thermal image.
