Integrated Motion Control
Applications
Auger Dispenser
In auger dispensing machinery, high performance motion control systems are essential to meet the demands of the application. Since the material being packaged varies in consistency, the flexibility of servo products enable machine builders to provide systems that can adapt readily to changes in packaging sizes and fill rates. These changes must be easily made with a keypad entry. The weight of the product being packaged is accurately controlled by monitoring an analog or digital output signal from a check weigher. The signal is proportional to the product weight during the fill cycle. Allen-Bradley servo products provide the precise motion control necessary for monitoring systems.
Solution
The conveyor and auger are driven by brushless motors and controlled a 1394 Two-Axis Motion Controller. An alternative technique is to move the auger a distance that is proportional to product weight.
Advantages of a Servo System
- Less waste, higher profits
- Accurate control of the fill process by an integrated system
- Quick setup for changes in packaging process provided by operator terminal
- No mechanical changeovers for new production runs
- Easy interface with machine controls such as PLCs or host computers
- Less maintenance because clutch brake mechanisms and pulley systems are eliminated
- Brushless systems provide long life and less down-time
- Precise packaging means better quality control
