Integrated Motion Control
Applications
Automatic Glue Applier
In this glue dispensing system, an Ultra5000 system provides the motion control. A bead of dispensed material is continuously applied to components that are aligned in a fixture. One Ultra5000 provides the master motion by indexing the glueing platform in both directions as the other Ultra5000 follows using electronic CAM profiles to create a continuous pattern of glue on one row of individual parts, then advance to the next row if required, and so on. An Ultra5000 positioning servo drive with camming capability is used to control motion in this dispensing system. A unique feature of a cam system is that the master/follower relationship is always repeated. In this application a bead of dispensed material is applied to individual parts that are aligned in a fixture. The positions of the master (table) and the follower (dispensing head) are synchronized and locked to each other for any given point on the cam profile. This relationship is very useful for machines that perform repetitive operations. The smooth speed transitions of the cam profile, which is executed for each piece part, results in uniform and consistent application of the dispensed material.
Advantages of an Electronic Cam Servo System
- Brushless systems provide long life and less down time.
- Precise quantity of dispensed material means better quality control.
- Accurate, repeatable digital control produces high throughput with minimum waste.
- Fast changeover to new parts Ð just select a new cam profile.
- Smoother cam motion profiles result in improved performance.
- Machines are able to run at high and speeds and generate more sophisticated motion profiles.
- No designing, machining or wear of a mechanical cam system results in significant cost savings.
