1757-FFLD FOUNDATION Fieldbus Linking Device
Rockwell Automation's Foundation Fieldbus Linking Device (1757-FFLD) and RSFieldbus Configuration Software (9324-RSFBC) extend the distributed process control capability of Rockwell Automation's integrated architecture. With the 1757-FFLD, you have the flexibility to do process control with any Logix processor while using the advanced capabilities of network-based process instrumentation.
The 1757-FFLD includes the unique ability to bridge both Foundation fieldbus HSE and Ethernet/IP networks to Foundation fieldbus H1 device networks. Bridging these networks facilitates information flow between the control layers. Transferred information can include device configuration (such as setup, operation, and diagnostic data) and plant floor process information (such as temperature and flow data).
The Foundation fieldbus standard provides for networked control — execution of the regulatory loop logic in field devices and/or the supervisory controller. The 1757-FFLD fully supports all Foundation fieldbus control capabilities through HSE. The 1757-FFLD is also integrated with Logix Processors.

- 1757-FFLD Specifications
- H1/HSE Linking Device Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the 1757-FFLD Fieldbus Foundation H1 module?
The 1757-FFLD is a Foundation Fieldbus Linking device that provides connectivity between devices on Fieldbus (H1) and Ethernet using Ethernet/IP and Foundation Fieldbus HSE protocols.
- What is difference between Foundation Fieldbus and DeviceNet networks?
While overlap exists, the different application needs required two different networks. The Foundation Fieldbus is targeted towards handling integrated complex process devices. DeviceNet is targeted to address more independent discrete control devices.
- What are the benefits of using the 1757-FFLD module with a Logix5000 controller?
Customers using a Logix5000 controller and the 1757-FFLD Fieldbus Foundation linking device can achieve a highly distributed process automation control system.
- Regulatory Loop control can be executed in the Fieldbus device, or in the Logix5000 controller or both at the same time.
- Communications between the 1757-FFLD and a Logix5000 controller is defined through the Logix data exchange blocks that are directly coupled to the Linking device Profile in RSLogix 5000
- How many H1 devices can be supported by a 1757-FFLD Fieldbus Foundation linking device?
The 1757-FFLD Fieldbus Foundation linking device has been tested to support up to 64 H1 devices when using a 4 segment FFLD (16/seg). In real applications, the actual number is typically less.
- How is the 1757-FFLD Fieldbus Foundation linking device interfaced to a Logix5000 controller?
The 1757-FFLD Fieldbus Foundation linking device is interfaced to a Logix5000 controller via an EtherNet/IP bridge module (i.e., 1756-ENBT) and a profile in RSLogix 5000. This provides a scheduled dedicated connection for the Logix.
- How many 1757-FFLD Fieldbus Foundation linking devices can be supported by an EtherNet/IP bridged module?
We have tested the 1757-FFLD Fieldbus Foundation linking device connected to a Logix5000 EtherNet/IP bridge module. With a ControlLogix controller and one 1756-ENBT, you can have up to 125 connections. Each Logix data exchange block in a 1757-FFLD consumes one of these connections. You could have up to 16 Logix data exchange blocks in a 1757-FFLD. Therefore a 1756-ENBT is limited to 125/16= 7 1757-FFLDs. Note: A 1757-FFLD can connect to more than one (1) ControlLogix controller at a time.
- How is Fieldbus Foundation device data presented in RSLogix5000/ControlLogix?
Foundation Fieldbus Logix data exchange blocks connect Fieldbus device block parameters to Logix5000 tags via the Linking device Profile. T/he Fieldbus data is automatically converted into a format that can be used by ControlLogix.
- What Fieldbus Foundation device data is available in RSLogix5000 via the data exchange blocks?
The following device data is available via the exchange block per I/O connection:
- Floating point value for analog PV
- Quality/fault of the analog value
- Sub status of the analog value
- Windup L and H limit of the analog value
- Init Primary
- Initializing startup status
- Initiate Fault State
- How is the Fieldbus Foundation network configured?
The Fieldbus Foundation network and any Fieldbus devices are configurable by using the RSFieldbus configuration software.
- What software version of RSFieldbus do I need to configure the 1757-FFLD linking device?
You need RSFieldbus Cat # 93080RSFB64ENE, which provides for 64 Function Blocks per Fieldbus project. As the application grows, you can purchase upgrades for a total of 1024 function blocks/project.
- What versions of the RSFieldbus software are available?
The RSFieldbus software is available in the following versions:
