Fast Analog I/O Module with On-board Data Archival Decreases Backplane Traffic and Optimizes System Performance

The new Fast Analog Module from Rockwell Automation helps users meet the ever-increasing processing demands of high- speed applications, while providing a significant performance boost to the company's Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) family. Using on-board data archival, the module increases system throughput by reducing the overhead required in collecting high speed data.

Featuring four archiving inputs and two outputs, the Fast Analog module generates extremely fast sample rates, while decreasing backplane traffic for optimized system performance. While previous I/O modules delivered data on an individual sample basis, the ControlLogix Fast Analog module collects up to 20 samples of data at a time, which are stored in the module's on-board buffers. By storing the data until the 20 samples are taken, the module lengthens the time between I/O data transfers, relieving the controller of burdensome information and decreasing process disruptions.

With the increasing complexity of high-speed applications, the ability to simplify data acquisition in an integrated environment is highly beneficial. Plus, the expansive archiving capabilities of the Fast Analog module ensure that quality expectations are being met across a wide variety of industries.

Taking advantage of the module's capabilities is simple through the use of the Rockwell Software RSLogix 5000 programming software. The archiving feature allows for configuration options such as, data type, tag generation and the connection between the controller and the high-speed analog I/O module.
