GuardShield™ Safe 2 Safety Light Curtain
The latest addition to the Allen-Bradley® Guardmaster® GuardShield family of safety light curtains is the new GuardShield Safe 2, an economical Type 2 solution with an Integrated Laser Alignment system. This Integrated Laser Alignment system is used to simplify set up and installation. Designed for use on or around machinery in which a formal risk assessment has determined that a Type 2 safety device is of a sufficient level of safety to meet the guarding application, the GuardShield Safe 2 is a simple and easy-to-apply guarding solution.
GuardShield Reliability and Functionality, with Added Flexibility
This Type 2 GuardShield safety light curtain is an economical two box opto-electronic On/Off switch. Available in 30 mm resolution, the GuardShield Safe 2 is offered in protective heights from 120 mm to 1920 mm to suit a wide range of applications.
The Integrated Laser Alignment system is comprised of two active laser elements located at the top and bottom of the GuardShield Safe 2; one is at the top of the transmitter and the other at the bottom of the receiver. These visible laser beams are constantly powered but do not transmit light until a finger is touched to the transmitting element (a finger symbol is provided to indicate the area to be touched for activation of each transmitting element). Simply touching the element after alignment is complete will turn off the visible alignment beams.
Built-in optical synchronization eliminates the need to connect the transmitter and receiver to a common point, reducing wiring, installation time and cost. Both the transmitter and receiver have 5-pin M12 connectors which utilize the same low cost cordset, reducing the number of part numbers required for a complete system.
While the GuardShield Safe 2 is shipped with standard mounting brackets, there are adjustable mounting brackets and shock mount kits available to suit a variety of applications.
The GuardShield Safe 2 safety light curtains are ordered as pairs (transmitter and receiver) and are shipped under a single catalog number for ease of selection.

Integrated Laser Alignment System (ILAS)
Designed to off er maximum functionality in a simpler, easier-to-use package, the GuardShield Safe 2 also features an Integrated Laser Alignment System (ILAS). Visible top and bottom lasers simplify alignment of the emitter with the receiver, not just at installation but also during operation.
