EtherNet Media
Overview
Allen-Bradley Ethernet media is specifically designed for use in harsh industrial environments, combining a specially designed cable with rugged connector construction to ensure reliability and flexibility. Ethernet media is unshielded with conductors in a twisted pair (UTP) construction to preserve signal balance through the cable to provide noise immunity. These unshielded pressure extruded cables maintain maximum balance during flexing. In addition to giving the cable more flexibility, installation is simplified by not having to ground any shielding.

Cables have been designed by Rockwell Automation for harsh environments and durable quality based on ODVA, MICE, EIA/TIA-568, ISO/IEC standards. The MICE standard measures product robustness by:
- Mechanical properties which include shock, vibration, crush, and impact
- Ingress properties which includes liquid particles
- Climatic Chemicals which includes temperature humidity
- EMI which includes radiated and conducted magnetic fields
MICE Standards fall into three categories, MICE 1 is for commercial/office environments, MICE2 is for Light industrial environments, and MICE3 is for harsh industrial environments. Allen-Bradley M12 D Code cables fall into M3I3C3E3, Rj45 cables fall into M3I1C3E3.
