Fault Number: 10
Fault Display:
Serial Fault
Fault Name:
Serial Fault
Description:
A SCANport adapter has been disconnected and the [Logic Mask] bit for that adapter is set to "1" .

Corrective Action:
This typically happens when an HIM is removed from the drive under power. This can also happen in an electrically noisy environment, although rare. If you need to remove SCANport modules under drive power, then you need to change the Logic Mask parameter (parameter 92) before removing the device. When using logic mask to mask out devices, you will no longer have control functions except for "stop" when the device is masked out. The Logic Mask parameter consists of 8 characters, and by default is "01111111". The left most bit is the LAx card. Then adapter 6, then 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The right most bit is TB3. When set to a "1", the device is NOT masked out, and will produce an F10 Serial fault if removed. If you change the adapter number to a "0", it will no longer have control options except for "stop", but will NOT produce an F10 serial fault if removed under power. TB3 should never be removed under power, regardless of the logic mask setting.

Serial faults can happen with communication devices also. Serial faults with communication modules are more susceptable to electrical noise. Parameter 197 (Prod/Cons Error) should be checked. A value greater than or equal to 10 will mean there are SCANport errors on the communication or HIM device. Steps should be taken to eliminate or isolate electrical noise. If it is below 10, then the communication device may be having trouble. Replace or swap the communication device with a known good device, or check the connections on the SCANport wire, as well as the wire itself.
