Problem Description With the 1769-L3x CompactLogix controller, firmware revisions 15.01 – 15.03 , hereafter referred to as the 1769-L3x controller, the following functional issue exists: Functional Issue – Generated faults on the 1769-L3x controller can hold outputs in their last state rather than turning outputs off. With a 1769-L3x controller, if 1769 I/O backplane faults or certain I/O module hardware faults occur, outputs are held in their last state at the time of the fault condition rather than the outputs turning off. This only occurs with 1769 I/O backplane faults and certain I/O module hardware faults (e.g. loss of backplane termination, loss of 24V on an analog module configured to use external 24V, etc.) and not with general controller faults (e.g. Watchdog timeout). This behavior is contrary to the information in the CompactLogix System User Manual, publication 1769-UM011. Temporary Workarounds There is no temporary workaround. An updated firmware release is planned in December 2005. Product Identification Product affected by this Product Service Advisory includes 1769-L3x CompactLogix controllers, with the following series and firmware revision:
Problem Correction To correct this issue, update the 1769-L3x controller firmware. The functional issue described above has been corrected in the following revisions of the 1769-L3x controller :
