The purpose of this Product Service Advisory is to inform you of a functional issue that exists with:

  • 1794-ADN, FLEX I/O DeviceNet Adapter Module, Series B, Revision K01, K02, or K03 (through 04/06) (package level marking) and/or part number 96494871 Revision C01, C02, or C03 (product ID label marking).
  • 1794-ADNK, FLEX I/O DeviceNet Adapter Module, Series B, Revision C01, C02, or C03 (through 04/06) (package level marking) and/or part number 97307172 Revision C01, or C02 (product ID label marking).
  • APV590071A/B Revision J01 (package) and/or part number 97017975 Revision C01 (product ID).
  • K5745999626/B Revision J01 (package) and/or part number 97102375 Revision C01 (product ID)

This Advisory explains the functional issue and the steps being taken to rectify the situation

Issue Description
With the DeviceNet I/O Adapter Module, the following functional issue exists:

Functional Issue – When the DeviceNet I/O Adapter Module is communicating with a DeviceNet Scanner, it may return invalid input data.

While the DeviceNet I/O Adapter Module is communicating with a DeviceNet Scanner, it may return invalid input data. Live input data present at any FLEX I/O input module may be temporarily changed in the input image table of the controller. The temporary change may last a full scan or two of the DeviceNet network and the frequency of change may be within seconds.

Product Identification
Product affected by this Mandatory Product Service Advisory includes 1794-ADN/B, DeviceNet I/O Adapter module, with the following series and firmware revision:

  • 1794-ADN, FLEX I/O DeviceNet Adapter Module, Series B, Revision K01, K02, or K03 (through 04/06) (package level marking) and/or part number 96494871 Revision C01, C02, or C03 (product ID label marking).
  • 1794-ADNK, FLEX I/O DeviceNet Adapter Module, Series B, Revision C01, C02, or C03 (through 04/06) (package level marking) and/or part number 97307172 Revision C01, or C02 (product ID label marking).
  • APV590071A/B Rev J01 (package) and/or part number 97017975 REV. C01 (product ID).
  • K5745999626/B Rev J01 (package) and/or part number 97102375 REV. C01 (product ID)
  • Rockwell Automation manufacturing dates are 02/06 through 04/06 inclusive.

Issue Correction

To correct this functional issue, the DeviceNet I/O Adapter Module’s firmware must be upgraded to the latest firmware revision or replaced with a new module that uses different hardware components. The functional issue described above has been corrected in the following versions of the product:

  • 1794-ADN, FLEX I/O DeviceNet Adapter Module, Series B, Revision K03 (05/06) or higher (package level marking) and/or part number 96494871 Revision C02 or higher (product ID label marking) with manufacturing date code of 05/06 or later.
  • 1794-ADNK, FLEX I/O DeviceNet Adapter Module, Series B, Revision C03 (05/06) or higher (package level marking) and/or part number 97307172 Revision C02 or higher (product ID label marking) with manufacturing date code of 05/06 or later.
  • APV590071A/B Revision K01 or higher (package) and/or part number 97017975 Revision C01 or higher (product ID) with manufacturing date code of 05/06 or later.
  • K5745999626/B Revision J01 or higher (package) and/or part number 97102375 Revision C01 or higher (product ID) with manufacturing date code of 05/06 or later.

IMPORTANT: The DeviceNet I/O Adapter module must be upgraded by a qualified Rockwell Automation employee or must be returned to Rockwell Automation for a firmware upgrade.

Requested Customer Action

Each notified customer should take the following actions:

  • Confirm that you have the affected products.
  • Immediately contact your local Rockwell Automation Sales and Support office to determine the appropriate course of action. Together, you and the local office will determine the correction for your situation.
