The purpose of this Product Service Safety Alert (PSA) is to inform you of a potential issue identified in the NRU Series. This notice describes the potential issue, identifies the impacted NRU systems and communicates the corrective action.

Rockwell Automation received a notification from our supplier, Eaton Electric/Cutler-Hammer advising that certain D65 Voltage Monitoring Relays are subject to a functional issue.

The following products may be affected by this issue:

• Allen-Bradley NRU-180A, NRU-350A, NRU-1500A, NRU-2000A, NRU-2500A, NRU-3000A

Problem Description

Our supplier, Eaton Electric/Cutler-Hammer, notified Rockwell Automation of the following:

“Eaton Electrical has identified a quality issue with our D65 Series B1 Voltage Monitoring Relay that can cause the unit to bypass the Manual Reset feature. This could result in the D65 relay being energized without an operator manually resetting it resulting in possible personal injury or death or property damage. D65 Series B1 relays with a manufacturing date code between May 12, 2003 and February 20, 2004 are affected. This condition is only present when used in applications operating in manual reset mode. This condition is not present when the device is used in automatic reset mode."

Rockwell Automation’s application is for Automatic Reset Mode however, due to the possibility of the End User reconfiguring the relay for Manual Reset Mode; we advise that the D65 Series B1 Voltage Monitoring Relays with the identified date codes be replaced, according to the directive provided.

Problem Correction

• Contact Chuck Novak, Commissioning Service at (262) 512-2622 to arrange the replacement of the D65 Series B1 Voltage Monitoring Relay.
• Identify and note the NRU’s Serial Number, when returning the D65 Series B1 Voltage Monitoring Relay.

Product Identification

The Allen-Bradley NRU manufactured between May 12, 2003 and March 31st, 2004 with D65 Series B1 Voltage Monitoring Relays may be affected.

Required Customer Action

• Read the Product Safety Alert and perform the required action.
• Inspect the following Allen Bradley units: NRU-180A, NRU-350A, NRU-1500A, NRU-2000A, NRU-2500A, NRU3000A
• Identify the date code on your relay; look at the lower left hand side of the relay’s product label to find the four-digit numerical code.
• Contact Chuck Novak, Commissioning Service at (262) 512-2622 to arrange the replacement of the D65 Series B1 Voltage Monitoring Relay.
• Identify and note the NRU’s Serial Number, when returning the D65 Series B1 Voltage Monitoring Relay.
