The purpose of this Product Service Advisory is to inform you of an issue that exists with the following PowerFlex 700S and PowerFlex 700L AC Drives using PowerFlex 700S control and PowerFlex 700S control cassette kits:

Issue Description

With the PowerFlex 700S and PowerFlex 700L AC Drives with the catalog numbers and kit numbers listed above, the following issue exists:

Digital Inputs 4, 5, and 6 May Not be Recognized When Configured for 24V DC Only

• Digital inputs 4, 5,and 6 may not be recognized by the drive’s control when 24V DC input power is applied to the digital inputs prior to energizing the drive control. If the inputs are toggled, from 24V DC to zero and back to 24V DC, the inputs are then detected by the drive’s control. However, any time power to the drive’s control is cycled and the digital inputs remain energized, the control will not recognize the digital inputs.

Temporary Workaround

Use digital inputs 4, 5, and 6 in the 115V AC configuration only. See User Manual for proper setup.

Product Identification

The affected drives can be identified by:

• Rockwell Automation manufactured and shipped the affected drives from the factory between June 23, 2006 and October 16, 2006. Kits affected have date codes between 2506 and 4206.
• The catalog number and date of manufacture is printed on the drive's shipping container and data nameplate. The kit number and date of manufacture is printed in the lower right hand corner of the product label on the kit’s shipping container.

Issue Correction

The issue described above has been resolved with the following Main Control board kits for the PowerFlex 700S Phase II control Expanded or Slim Cassette with or without DriveLogix.

• 20D-DL2-CKE1 - PF700S Expanded Cassette with DriveLogix
• 20D-DL2-CKS1 - PF700S Slim Cassette with DriveLogix
• 20D-P2-CKE1 - PF700S Expanded Cassette without DriveLogix
• 20D-P2-CKS1 - PF700S Slim Cassette without DriveLogix

Any PowerFlex 700S or PowerFlex 700L drive with one of the catalog numbers within the shipped dates, as noted above, should have the drive’s cassette replaced if configured for 24V DC input. Corrected kits will have a date code of 4306 or later.

Requested Customer Action

You should take the following actions:

• Confirm that you have the affected products and identify the quantity and part number.
• Immediately contact your local Rockwell Automation Sales and Support office to determine the appropriate course of action. Together, the local office and you should determine the correction for your situation.
• If you have been supplied a replacement cassette, perform the following:
  • Identify the installed options of the original cassette
  • Transfer these options to the replacement cassette
