PowerFlex 700 AC Drive 0.5 - 7.5HP, 480V & 0.37 - 5.5kW, 400V only, the ground strap from the drive to the board on the cover was not protected with an insulator.
Ref: CPAG 2002-04-002
Problem Description
It has been determined that all Frame 0 PowerFlex 700 AC drives manufactured prior to March 26, 2002 have a ground strap that is uninsulated and unrestricted and may come into contact with the input AC power wires. This ground lead is attached to the door of the drive and may initiate this contact when the door is closed. This occurrence is more likely if the AC wires are stripped longer than recommended.
The result of this unintended contact of the AC power to ground will cause substantial arcing and melting of the ground strap wire. While this arcing should be contained within the drive, there is a safety concern. Although unlikely, it is possible that an injury could be sustained as a result of this arcing.
