Product Advisories: SD3000 PLUS DC Drive Regulator Gate Driver Output board

Problem Description

There may be a clearance problem between the rear three mounting screws on the SD3000 PLUS Gate Driver Output (GDO) board and the traces for the regulator internal common connection. The mounting screws are connected to chassis ground. If the GDO printed circuit board is not centered on the mounting screws, the captive washers on the three rear mounting screws will align on top of the printed circuit board traces for the internal regulator common and may wear through the solder mask.

If the solder mask wears through, then there could be a short connection between the chassis ground and the internal regulator common, combine that with electrical noise, it may result in intermittent shut down of the drive.

Problem Correction

To resolve this issue, we recommend installing plastic insulating washers to the three rear mounting screws on the GDO board. Rockwell will supply all affected units with a washer template (contains 4 plastic washers) part number 195341 Rev. 02 and the instruction sheet Publication DSSD3P-SB001A-EN-E – May, 2005.

Details of all affected shipments are identified. All affected customers will be notified with details on the affected installation and supplied by RA personnel with a washer template and instructions. We will work with each of our customers individually to avoid any unnecessary inconveniences. There are four plastic washers per sheet of 195341 Rev. 02 material. Three of the four washers will be used. The instruction sheet will be issued with the washer template to all affected customers.

Product Identification

Product affected by this Mandatory Product Service Advisory include:

• All SD3K2004 - SD3000 PLUS before April 21st, 2005. All units shipped after April 21st, 2005 are already updated.

All affected Customers (End-Users, Distributors, and OEMs) are identified, including customer P.O., shipping date and project number. All affected customers will be notified with details of the identified installation.

Requested Customer Action

• Each notified customer should take the following actions:
• Read the Product Service Advisory and perform the required immediate action.
• Confirm they have SD3K2004 - SD3000 PLUS units in your systems shipped to you before April 21st, 2005. All affected customers will be notified with the Product Service Advisory information on the affected systems.
• We will work with each of customer individually to avoid any unnecessary inconveniences. There are four plastic washers per sheet of 195341 Rev. 02 material. Three of the four washers will be used. The replacements washer template and instruction sheet will be delivered to the affected customer through the local RA personnel. Work with your Rockwell Automation representative and/or distributor to receive the update material and assistance in installation if required.
