Drives Service & Support >
1. What applications are a good fit for the PowerFlex 400 Product?
PowerFlex 400 Drives and Packages should be targeted for variable torque fan and pump applications with a focus on the commercial market. The PowerFlex 400 does not have a constant torque or heavy duty rating and is limited to volts/Hz control. The drive has a similar feature set and is competitively priced with competitor products such as the ABB ACH550 and Danforss VLT6000 which also target the commercial market.
2. Are there any plans to offer ratings below 7.5HP or above 100HP?
An additional frame “F” will be released for the PowerFlex 400 drive by the end of 2004 which will increase the HP at 380-480V AC to 150HP. A 230V AC rating for this frame will not be offered. In addition, a 3 and 5HP “C” frame rating will be introduced for both the 230 and 480V AC class of product by the end of 2004.
3. Will there be a 600V AC class product?
At this time, there are no plans to offer a 600V AC class product for the PowerFlex 400.
4. Does the PowerFlex 400 have a DC link reactor?
Panel mount PowerFlex 400 drives, 15HP and larger @ 200-240VAC and 380-480VAC, are supplied with an internal DC link reactor. 7.5-10HP ratings are not supplied with an internal DC link reactor and do not require one for basic operation. The DC bus is accessible for all PowerFlex 400 drives via the P1and P2 terminals. These terminals ship from the manufacturing facility with a jumper bar installed. This jumper bar can be removed and an external DC link reactor wired in if additional inductance is desired. Flange mount PowerFlex 400 drives do not contain a DC link reactor. An external bus inductor is required for 15-20HP @ 380-480VAC flange mount units.
5. Will a remote DSI programming terminal work with the PowerFlex 400?
A remote DSI programming terminal will work with the PowerFlex 400 drive. Note that the integral terminal on the PowerFlex 400 drive contains HAND-OFF-AUTO buttons which are not present on the remote device.
6. Will a flange mount version of the PowerFlex 400 be offered?
A flange mount PowerFlex 400 will be offered for all C-Frame ratings. This includes 7.5-10HP @ 200-240VAC and 7.5-20HP @ 380-480VAC. Due to the power structure design, a flange mount version for other frame sizes is not possible. Please note that an external DC link reactor is required for the 15-20HP @ 380-480VAC flange mount units. The mechanical design of these ratings did not allow an internal DC link reactor to be supplied as part of the unit. These units will not operate without an external bus inductor.
7. Will the PowerFlex 400 support any Building Automation Network protocols?
The PowerFlex 400 support the Johnson Metasys N2 Protocol, as well as the Siemens P1 protocol as of firmware 3.03. BACNet and LonWorks are also being considered with no timeframe set.
