Updating Firmware with ControlFlash on the PowerFlex Drive
- Get the PowerFlex 700 with Vector Control ControlFlash file from the Web Updates site. Save the ControlFlash file to your hard drive somewhere, perhaps on your desktop. Double click to start up the ControlFlash file. Hit "Next", "Accept" the license agreement, then "Next" again to allow the ControlFlash program to install on your machine. Hit "Yes", then "Next", then "Yes" again, making sure the checkbox is ticked to start ControlFlash when done. You can start the program manually later if the checkbox to launch ControlFlash is not checked.

- Once starting the ContolFlash program, the introduction screen will be displayed. Click "Next" to continue.

- Next choose the Powerflex 700VC Series B from the product list. The products listed will depend on any other ControlFlash files that have been downloaded in the past.

- Next you will need to configure the communications path to the drive. Select the path to the drive, which will be similar to the configuration below. The connection listed below is through the DPI port.

- The next step is to choose the firmware revision that you will be flashing the drive to. The list of available firmware will be dependant on previous ControlFlash files downloaded. To update to firmware to firmware 4.005, select "4.005.115 App" from the list of firmwares. Click "Next" to continue.

- After selecting the firmware version, you will get a confirmation screen showing the current revision of the drive, as well as the version that the drive will be after flashing. The example image shows the same version for the current revision and the flash version, yours will be different.

- Another confirmation screen will appear, telling you that the flash is about to begin.

- You will have to remove the HIM module from the drive before the flashing procedure can begin. After you remove the HIM module from the drive, click the OK button. The flash procedure will then begin. It is very important that the flash procedure is not interrupted. If all is as expected, click the OK button to continue.

-
When the flashing procedure starts, you may hear a relay click inside the drive and the STS light will flash rapidly during the flashing process. Note:
The STS light may possibly flash slower, this is normal, and is not an indication of a problem.

- After the flash is complete, the drive will cycle itself, and the ControlFlash program will wait for the drive to reinitialize.
- After the procedure is complete, the ControlFlash program will indicate that the process was successful. Click the OK button to finish.

- You can now reinstall the HIM module onto the drive, and continue on to reprogramming the drive. There is a knowledgebase document that covers reprogramming the drive. That document can be found here: G154752374 - Flash Upgrade Procedure for the PowerFlex 700VC Series B to Firmware 4.005
