DriveExecutive PowerFlex Drive Firmware Flashing Procedure
- If you do not already have a ControlFlash file for the Powerflex 700VC, now would be the time to go get one from the Web Updates site. Save the ControlFlash file to your hard drive somewhere, perhaps on your desktop. Double click to start up the ControlFlash file. Hit "Next", "Accept" the license agreement, then "Next" again to allow the ControlFlash program to install on your machine. Hit "Yes", then "Next", then "Yes" again, making sure the checkbox is ticked to start ControlFlash when done.
- Start the DriveExecutive program. Click the icon to connect to the drive.

- Select the path that your drive is connected with. It should look similar to the image below. The connection listed is for a DPI connection with an Anacanda.
- The PowerFlex 700VC should now be connected. The parameters will update themselves on the screen.
- Click on the properties button, which looks like a lower-case "i" in the toolbar.
- Select the "Component Details" tab in the PowerFlex 700 VC properties window.
- Under the Component Details tab, click on the "Flash Update" button.
- Select the PowerFlex 700 VC drive from the list. The firmware revision listed for your drive will most likely be different than the one listed in the example picture. After you select the PowerFlex 700 VC drive, click "Next".

- Select the firmware revision you wish to send to the drive. The available flash updates listed will depend on the amount of firmware files that you have downloaded in the past and installed on your computer. For flashing to firmware 4.005, select the file listed as 4.005.115 App, as indicated in the image below. Click "Next" to continue after clicking on the firmware.
- The "Confirm Flash Update" window will appear, and show you the current firmware revision, as well as the firmware revision that you are going to be flashing the device to. It is important to remove the HIM module before flashing the drive! If everything is as expected, then hit the "FLASH" button. It is imparitive that the flash process does NOT get interrupted.

- The flash process can take a few minutes. There is a status indicator that will count up as the process progresses.
- When finished, you will see a screen like the one below indicating the flash process has finished.
- You can now reinstall the HIM module onto the drive, and continue on to reprogramming the drive. There is a knowledgebase document that covers reprogramming the drive. That document can be found here: G154752374 - Flash Upgrade Procedure for the PowerFlex 700VC Series B to Firmware 4.005
