Setting Up & Using HyperTerminal® for Flash Updates

This page contains instructions to help you:

Setting Up HyperTerminal

The HyperTerminal program bundled with the Microsoft Windows operating systems is provided by the Hilgraeve Company. The version that comes with Windows 95 can have occasional interruptions during a transfer process, which will cause the flash download process to fail ("Transfer canceled..."). Early versions of Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP also had issues. Issues with Windows 98 or XP are unknown. If you experience problems using HyperTerminal, it is recommended that you upgrade the latest service pack for your operating system. If you still have problems, upgrade to Hilgraeve's HyperTerminal Private Edition (HTPE) version, which is available for download from the Hilgraeve web site. Please note that there are specific licensing requirements for HTPE.
  1. Start HyperTerminal.
  2. When the Connection Description dialog opens, you are prompted to enter the name of the new connection. Enter a name and click OK.
  3. When the Connect to dialog opens, change Connect using to Direct to COM1.
  4. Click OK to continue.
