Setting Up & Using HyperTerminal® for Flash Updates
This page contains instructions to help you:
- Set up HyperTerminal
- Use HyperTerminal to flash update your device
Setting Up HyperTerminal
The HyperTerminal program bundled with the Microsoft Windows operating systems is provided by the Hilgraeve Company.
The version that comes with Windows 95 can have occasional interruptions during a transfer process, which will cause
the flash download process to fail ("Transfer canceled..."). Early versions of Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows
XP also had issues. Issues with Windows 98 or XP are unknown. If you experience problems using HyperTerminal, it is
recommended that you upgrade the latest service pack for your operating system. If you still have problems, upgrade
to Hilgraeve's HyperTerminal Private Edition (HTPE) version, which is available for download from the
Hilgraeve web site. Please note that there are specific licensing
requirements for HTPE.
- Start HyperTerminal.
- When the Connection Description dialog opens, you are prompted to enter the name of the new connection. Enter a
name and click OK.
- When the Connect to dialog opens, change Connect using to Direct to COM1.
- Click OK to continue.
- When the COM1 Properties dialog opens, use these settings:
- Bits per second = the baud rate / data rate setting of your DPI serial adapter
- Data bits = 8
- Parity = None
- Stop bits = 1
- Flow control = None
- Click OK.
- When the main window for HyperTerminal appears, select File > Properties in the menus.
- Select the Settings tab.
- On the Settings tab, set Emulation to VT100.
- Click OK.
- Press the Esc key on your keyboard to call up the main menu in the serial adapter. (If you see non-readable
characters, you have selected the wrong data rate and need to start over at step 1.)
Using HyperTerminal to Flash Update Your Device
